Testing our new Tentipi Safir CP 7 with Eldfell wood stove, on a late April 2010 camping trip up to rainy Lopez in the San Juan islands, puget sound Washington state. 2 days/nights of wind and rain with some nice sun breaks thrown in. The Tentipi did well as did the stove. No leaks or malfunctions. Very easy to set up and pack away. There are some vids online made by Tentipi showing the basic process of setting up. It really was as easy as they showed. Everyone, especially the gals liked the warmth of the wood stove. Our tent became the hangout and we could sit 5-6 people around the stove. The wife won't go camping without heat and some comforts and these big tents provide that. I asked her what she was saying in Norwegian, she was counting to 10 to keep from killing me for filming & teasing her. Pretty good sport. Overall very happy with this gear. Didn't like the high costs of having one sent over from Europe. The high price tag of the tent/stove along with the shipping and duty are a killer. The last hurahhhh of summer found me camping with Boots. Just the two of us in the rain at Middle Fork Creek just outside Seattle near North Bend. We made a teepee to stay dry under while we sat near the fire. We took walks by the creek and up on a mountain. We kept dry in our tent and ate great food on sticks.

Winter camping in my miniature Sioux tipi

What a comedy it was. The temperature dropped to -15 C and to keep warm I was feeding wood into that little stove. Since I didn't use a draft tube, which I learned about later, the smoke became unbearable. The hole in the top allowed cold air and snow to blow in, and by 2:30 in the morning I stumbled into my house. I'll have to do some research before I try that again. LATEST UPDATE: I've sold this tipi to someone who plans to live in it for a year. I'm excited to hear how she does. Perhaps she'll make some videos.

I'll reinforce it at the apex (top) so that it can be used with either a centre pole or by hanging. The corners will be rounded too. The door and window are already functional, and staking it down is easy. It needs a stove jack and it's ready to keep 2-3 people toasty on the coldest Canadian nights.

I used a bale of hay to spread out as natural insulation under me since I didn't have a therma rest with me in my bug out bag. I was toasty all night on the hay, inside my Recon 4 sleeping bag. The walls of the tipi became moist with dew and probably the condensation from my breath, but with a fire and the morning sunshine it dried out quickly. I've since cut the parachute to make Ranger sleeping bags, so now when I make a tipi with it there'll only be one wall of nylon.
