Leiden, Museum Volkenkunde






Animation of 3 SketchUp-models in Leiden, the Netherlands. The National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden, housed in the former university hospital (1873) It was the first ethnographic museum in Europe. The laboratory Boerhaave, built in 1885 (J. van Lokhorst). The students were taught anatomy and surgical medicine here. The building is now used as offices for the Museum of Ethnology. In front of the building stood a statue of Herman Boerhaave (1668-1738), the statue is now near the University Hospital of Leiden. A part of the building was bombed in WW2. The Pavilion and garden of the museum of Ethnology in Leiden. As Museum Volkenkunde is housed in Leiden's former academic hospital, this used to be the place where those with contagious diseases were lodged.
