Fresh out of the box test for sharpness, sharpening, stropping, shaving, grip, feel, handle size, blade length, flint and steel test, ferro rod / fire steel test, featherstick test, and whatever else I can't remember offhand. To me, this is a very good knife and quite economical. The Opinel number 9 appears to be a flat grind with a thin blade, good for carving and whittling on wood, good for general bushcraft, and survival use, good for field dressing game animals and other wilderness living or survival tasks. The unique VIROBLOC double safety ring locking mechanism holds the blade securely in both the opened and closed positions. I really like this feature on a lockblade knife, it appears and feels very solid in the hand, yet the knife itself is quite lightweight and fits comfortably in the front pocket of a pair of blue jeans or cargo pants.
